UBS Launches uMINT, its First Tokenized USD Money Market Fund

UBS Asset Management announced the launch of uMINT, a Money Market Fund, making a move to join other major institutions within the tokenized US Treasury market.

uMINT: a permissioned USD Money Market Fund

UBS Asset Management has launched uMINT, a permissioned USD Money Market Fund on Ethereum technology. The fund’s structure and technical features were developed by UBS's tokenization platform, UBS Tokenize.

The UBS USD Money Market Investment Fund Token is an actively managed tokenized Money Market Fund that invests in diversified, high-quality money market instruments in USD.

Thomas Kaegi, Co-Head of UBS Asset Management APAC, said, “We have seen growing investor appetite for tokenized financial assets across asset classes."

UBS joins other major gobal asset managers in offering tokenized assets in the money market asset class, such as Blackrock, Franklin Templeton, abrdn and Société Générale.

An investment fund for accredited investors and distributors

Transfers of fund shares are allowed within a permission system, meaning holders must have their identity verified by issuer or accredited distributors.

DigiFT, a singapore-based Capital Markets Services Licensee and Recognised Market Operator, is the first digital asset marketplace and distributor to announce the future integration of uMINT.

A historical involvement in tokenization

UBS has structured its tokenization activity under a dedicated brand integrated into its Investment Banking platform: UBS Tokenize.

Active in the Asia-Pacifi regionc, UBS is a key contributing member of Project Guardian an initiative led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). UBS collaborates with other financial institutions to explore use cases for tokenized assets within regulated frameworks.

UBS has launched proofs-of-concept across a range of financial products. In 2022, it issued a USD 50 million tokenized fixed-rate note specifically for Asia-Pacific clients.

In June 2023, UBS Tokenize facilitated the issuance of CNH 200 million in fully digital structured notes for a third-party issuer, followed by the world’s first cross-border repurchase transaction with a digital bond on a public blockchain in November 2023. Most recently, in February 2024, UBS launched Hong Kong’s first investment-grade tokenized warrant on Ethereum.
